The Portland Foundation Women’s Giving Circle is accepting grant applications from Jay County not-for-profit organizations.
The group “wishes to fund innovative endeavors to educate and assist Jay County residents of all ages,” according to a press release. Organizations may apply for $5,000 to go toward projects or programming in the Jay County community.

The Women’s Giving Circle has awarded $44,818 in grants since 2005.

Arts Place has a few upcoming lessons for musicians in the community.
“First Steps in Music: Pointing Little Feet in the Right Direction,” a six-week session for 10-month-old babies to 5-year-old children, starts June 28 and continues each Wednesday through Aug. 2. Classes start at 9 a.m. for 10-month-olds to 23-month-olds, 10 a.m. for 2-year-olds to 3-year-olds and 11 a.m. for 4-year-olds to 5-year-olds.

Dean’s list
Several local residents were named to Manchester University’s dean’s list recently.
Undergraduates on the list include environmental studies: natural history major Sierra Caster of Portland, biology-chemistry major Kendal Garringer of Portland, business management major Crosby Heniser of Portland and business management major Braydon Hoggatt of Union City.
To make the dean’s list, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and complete at least 12 credit hours.
Academic honors
The University of Saint Francis recently announced spring academic honors for its undergraduate students. Local residents making the president’s list — it requires students to have a 3.9 GPA or higher — include Paige Bihn of Fort Recovery, Bailee Tebbe of Fort Recovery, Carrie Schmit of Pennville and Kenna Kahlig of Portland.
Local residents making the dean’s list — students must have between a 3.5 and 3.8999 GPA — include Breanna Homan of Fort Recovery and Lindy Wood of Portland.
