Betty May Best, age 89, of Portland went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 16, 2023, at her residence.
She was born in Pennville on May 27, 1934, the daughter of James Madison and Sylvia May (Auker) Rigby. She was married in 1951 to John Daniel Best and he passed away on May 2, 2005. She was retired from Anchor Hocking in Winchester after 36 years. She was a caregiver for many families throughout the years
She was a member of Gospel Lighthouse where she taught Sunday School. Betty enjoyed camping, traveling and her family.
Surviving are three sons, Michael L. Best of Portland, Larry D. Best of Pennville and Daniel J. Best of Lithia, Florida; two daughters, Betty J. Pfeifer of Portland and Norma J. Best of Pennville; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She raised a granddaughter, Alyssa Best, in her home with her daughter Norma.
She was preceded in death by a son, John David Best; and grandson, Danny Coby Jr.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 23, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Pennville. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
