Indiana Michigan Power announced Wednesday that it has suspended disconnecting customer electricity because of the current poor air quality caused by wildfires in Canada.
“Our customers are at the heart of everything we do here at I&M. Our region is experiencing sustained levels of extremely poor air quality, and we do not want to deprive our customers of access to air conditioning and other means of generating air that is safe to breathe,” said I&M president and chief operating officer Steve Baker in a press release.
Disconnections for non-payment will be suspended through Independence Day. The company plans to reevaluate air quality on July 5.
