To the editor:
The Jay County Optimist Clubs are honoring all the police officers who work in Jay County from May 1 through 6. It is our hope and wishes that the residents of Jay County will show respect for our law enforcement offices always, but make a special effort for “Respect for Law Week” from May 1 through 6.
Through the Jay County Optimists Respect for Law Week, members will honor and show respect for all city, county and state law enforcement officers in Jay County.
We believe it is important as citizens to abide by the law, respect law enforcement and do what we can to maintain peace. We hope our project will let officers know we appreciate them for their work.
The local Breakfast Optimist Club was started in 1975, with the Portland Evening Optimists chartered in 1988, and West Jay and Mighty Marvels later. Over $2 million worth of Optimist projects have come to fruition since the establishment of the first Optimist club in Jay County.
Optimist International is one of the largest service club organizations in the world, with clubs in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and throughout the world.
Respect for law is one of the organization’s most popular programs. More than 1,500 clubs participate annually.
Carrying the motto “Bringing out the Best in Kids,” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than 7 million young people each year.
