FORT RECOVERY — Officials took another step forward in reconstruction plans Monday.
Fort Recovery Village Council declared it necessary to construct curbs and sidewalks along Wiggs and Gwendolyn streets, a move that is required to continue before alerting adjourning homeowners. (Council could not pass the resolution at its last meeting in April because it did not have a quorum present.) Plans are to reconstruct Gwendolyn Street between Milligan and Wiggs streets and Wiggs Street between Gwendolyn and Wayne streets sometime in the next year.
Also Monday, village council heard JR Manufacturing’s recovery is moving swiftly. The company’s facility at 900 Industrial Drive caught fire in the evening April 22, when more than a dozen fire departments stayed to fight the flames through the next morning.
“They have handled that like champs,” Diller said.
He noted the company has two cells back up and running. (Fort Recovery employees are currently working at the Coldwater facility.) Expectations are that approximately 80% of the equipment at its former facility, he added, can be salvaged. JR Manufacturing plans to rebuild its facility in Fort Recovery, he said.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine visited the village Monday to offer his support in response to the fire.
Also Monday, village council declared it necessary to renew the storm water control levy — it will be on the ballot in the November election — for another five years. The levy has been in place since the early 1990s. It generates approximately $64,000 annually.
In other business, council:
•Learned the wastewater lagoons have had no smell in recent weeks and treatment continues to go smoothly.
•Heard from Karen Anderson of West Ohio Community Action Partnership, who shared information about fair housing relating to tenants and landowners.
