Local notes

Registration open for outing

Registration is open for Jay Community Center’s J. Gordon Meeker Golf Tournament.

The four-player scramble at Portland Golf Club is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 19. Registration will start at noon.

The base cost for a team is $240 (meals included). Other packages include hole sponsorship, mulligans and skirts.

Summer swim sign-ups open

Jay County Summer Swim Team is now accepting registrations for its 2023 season.

Practices for the team will be on most Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 8 through 25. The season will include about 10 meets, concluding July 15.

Registration is $55 for the first child and $45 for each additional child. Team members must purchase a pass to Portland Water Park.

In-person registration will be held from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. May 11 and 16 at the pool. A parent meeting will be held at 5 p.m. May 16 at the junior-senior high school.

5K circuit continues Saturday

The next race in the Jay County 5K Circuit is scheduled for Saturday.

The Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition 5K will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Hudson Family Park in Portland. Race day registration will be $25.

The circuit features eight races running from April through August. Awards are presented in nine divisions.

T-Ball/coach-pitch registration open

Registration is open for Jay Community Center’s Boomer t-ball and coach-pitch leagues.

The leagues are open to players ages 3 through 6. The registration fee is $60 and the deadline is May 22.

Free 5K set in Blackford County

Blackford County Client Consultation Board and Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction are hosting a free 5K event May 20 as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Blackford Junior/Senior High School, with the run/walk to be along Blackford Greenway. To register, visit tinyurl.com/bdz8vt38.
