Earl Robert “Bob” Guntle, age 88, a resident of Portland, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.
Bob was born July 6, 1934, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Earl and Ethel (Landers) Guntle. He graduated from Bryant High School in 1953, worked for Portland Forge and was a farmer in Jay County. Bob served in the U.S. Navy and attended Fellowship Baptist Church.
He married Janet Hoskins on Nov. 7, 1953.

Two daughters — Sandra Atienzo, Portland, Indiana, and Mary Beth Kauffman (husband: Rick), Selma, Indiana
One son — Robert B. Guntle, Portland, Indiana
Two brothers — Jerry Guntle, Geneva, Indiana, and Charles William “Bill” Guntle, Berne, Indiana
Thirteen grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Earl was preceded in death by two daughters, Jana Claycomb and Carol Guntle; and three brothers, James, Richard and Donald Guntle.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m. on Tuesday with Pastor Hugh Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery, west of Bryant.
