Janet Stump

Janet L. Stump, age 80, of rural Portland passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at her residence.

She was born in Portland on Oct. 10, 1942, the daughter of Jack and Mary (Bergman) Hough. She was married on Sept. 3, 1970, to Mark Stump and he passed away on March 28, 2022.

Janet had worked for Pak A Sak and Circle K in Portland. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Good News Club, Children’s Church and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are one son, Neil Rinker (companion: Amanda Moore) of Portland; four daughters, Cindy Bales of Portland, Margaret “Meg” Chaney (husband: Randy) of Fortville, Carla McCollum of Pennville and Michele Colburn of Bonita Springs, Florida; one sister, Norma Nichols of Bryant; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Hopton; granddaughter Debbie LeMaster; great-grandson Garry Gadberry III; brother Richard Hough; and son-in-law Stephen McCollum.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Cecil presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 2 p.m.
