William “Bill” James, age 89, of Portland passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, in Portland, Indiana.
He was born in Pennville on June 26, 1933, the son of Clarence and Nellie Marie (Hutson) James. He was married on June 18, 1961, to Sharla “Ann” Simons who survives.
Bill was a self employed auto body repairman. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.
Surviving are his wife Ann; two daughters, Gloria James Suarez (Robert) of Portland and Rita James Russell (Jeff) of Avon; one brother, Jack James (Barbara) of Portland; and two granddaughters, Liza and Ava Russell.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph “Lindy” James; and a sister, Betty Clark.
Memorial services will be Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland with Pastor Darrell Borders presiding.
Military services will follow by the American Legion Post #211. Visitation will be Friday from noon to 2 p.m.
