Paul Shimp

Paul D. Shimp, age 77, of Portland passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at IU Health Jay in Portland.

He was born in Bradford, Ohio, on Dec. 1, 1945, the son of Kenen R. Shimp and Treva D. (Rickert) Shimp. He lived with a foster family, Thurl and Hazel Bradburn. He was married to Nelda Vanskyock on Dec. 7, 1968, and she survives.

Paul worked at the Teledyne Forge and was a 1965 graduate of Union City Community High School, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the machinist union, and attended First Church of Nazarene. He was the owner of Paul's Fire Extinguishers.

Paul loved all sports and was involved in wrestling, track, football and basketball in high school. He also loved attending garage sales.

Surviving is his wife Nelda; one son, Troy D. Shimp of Atlanta; and one daughter, Robin M. Shimp.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, with Pastor Steve Cecil presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.
