Hydroplaning

A Zionsville teen lost control of the vehicle she was driving, causing her to damage a Jay County Council member’s yard in rural Bryant.

Mackenzie G. Pearson, 15, was driving a 2007 Honda Accord west along Indiana 67 near county road 400 East when she began hydroplaning on the wet road. The vehicle went off the north side of the road into Jeanne Houchins’ yard.

Damage is estimated at less than $1,000, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report. The vehicle is registered to Deborah D. Hart of Winchester.

Vehicle towed

A Richmond man’s vehicle was towed after hitting a deer along U.S. 27 in Jay County about 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

William E. Webster, 51, was driving north on the highway just north of county road 650 South when a deer ran in front of his 2012 Ford F-150. Webster’s vehicle struck the deer, causing between $5,000 and $10,000 in estimated damage to the front and driver’s side of his truck.

Dog hit

A dog ran in front of a North Webster man’s vehicle at the intersection of county roads 100 South and 100 East, causing an accident about 8:40 p.m. Saturday.

Jakob M. Fields, 27, was driving his 2013 Hyundai Sonata west on the road when a dog ran in front of his path. He wasn’t able to avoid hitting the animal, causing between $1,000 and $2,500 in estimated damage.

Backing accident

A Portland man backed his vehicle into an Ohio man’s truck parked at Pizza Hut in Portland about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Robert J. Suarez, 64, was backing his 2014 Toyota Tundra in the parking lot at 1502 N. Meridian St. when he struck a parked 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. Suarez told police he wasn’t sure if he had hit the truck and didn’t notice any damage to his own vehicle. According to a Portland police report, camera footage showed Suarez backing into the truck, which is registered to Lonnie Hurt of Celina.

Damage is estimated at less than $1,000.
