FORT RECOVERY — Kennedy Muhlenkamp struggled to get going in the first game of the season.
Scoring came easy for her in the second, but it couldn’t push the Indians to victory.
Muhlenkamp led all scorers with 18 points Saturday in the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team’s 51-44 loss to the Arcanum Trojans.
Muhlenkamp scored 10 points in the first half. She dominated the third quarter, putting up eight points as the Indians (0-2) outscored the Trojans (1-0) 16-5 to take a 39-32 lead.
Arcanum wouldn’t be down for long, as Ashlyn Miller scored seven of her 15 points in a strong fourth quarter for the Trojans. Miller knocked down a three and shot 4-for-6 from the charity stripe in the quarter.
Alexis Gibbons, Brooke Anderson and Caroline Long combined for nine points as the Trojans outpaced the Indians 16-5 in the final period.
Kennedy Muhlenkmap was held scoreless as only Saige Leuthold and Cameron Muhlenkamp found the basket for FRHS.
The Trojans held a four-point lead at halftime, powered by Gibbons scoring 10 points in the second quarter. Gibbons tied Miller with 15 points for Arcanum.
Karlie Neikamp, Leuthold and Cameron Muhlenkmap all scored season-highs with nine, eight and four points, respectively, while Cali Wendel was held to six on two 3-pointers.
The Trojans won the battle at the line, shooting 9-for-16 (56.3%) while the Indians shot 4-for-10.
Fort Recovery will be back in action tonight at home against the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks before hosting Jay County on Saturday.
