Six named to All-ACAC teams

JCHS football

The Patriots had their best start since 1985.

It was their best season since 2018.

Just over a month since they played their final game, individual accolades are starting to roll in.

Two members of the Jay County High School football team were named to the first team All-Allen County Athletic Conference on Friday, with four more earning second-team honors.

The Patriots’ offensive leader, A.J. Myers, was the sole selection to the offensive first team. The junior rushed for 939 yards on 203 carries before going down with a season-ending injury in the final game of the regular season. During the nine regular season games, Myers ran in 11 touchdowns and rushed for over 100 yards three times. He also threw the football four times, three of which were competitions that totaled 70 yards.

Bryce Wenk made the first team as Jay County’s only defensive selection. Wenk was fourth on the team with 52 tackles, seven of which were for a loss. The defensive back also completed one sack, caused two fumbles and had a fumble recovery.

Two players made the second team for offense and defense. On offense it was a pair of seniors, wide receiver Justin DeHoff and offensive lineman Joe Hemmelgarn.

DeHoff reeled in 17 catches and went for 413 yards and four touchdowns.

On the defense team were a pair of juniors, lineman Isaac Dues and linebacker Lucas Strait. Both players sacked an opposing quarterback while Strait also blocked a punt. Strait led Jay County with 10 tackles for losses on 75 total tackles while Dues caused a loss four times on 44 tackles.
