Renna Schwieterman had a slow start to the season.
She didn’t see much time in the first game of the season. Then she started to see minutes and got to scoring. Her playing time is only increasing.
The 2023 Jay County High School graduate earned her first start for the Purdue Fort Wayne women’s basketball team Nov. 24 against the Iowa Hawkeyes and kept the spot for the next two games as well.
Schwieterman played 23 minutes in her first start, shooting 1-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc. She also had two rebounds, two assists and one steal in the 98-59 loss to Iowa.
The next day, Schwieterman improved to be 4-for-7 from the floor for nine points in only 15 minutes as she dealt with foul trouble. She scored the first seven points for the Mastodons (4-2) in the 88-74 victory over Delaware.
She scored her career high against another division I school on Sunday against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The freshman shot 2-for-6 from deep and 5-for-6 at the free throw line to end with 15 points. She also pulled down four rebounds, three of which came from the offensive glass, in the 90-77 win.
