Lost control
An Ohio man lost control of his semi, causing him to veer off Indiana 67 and hit a culvert about 11:57 a.m. Thursday.
Kenneth R. Kirtley, 56, Pemberton, was driving a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia west on the highway near county road 650 East when he took a sip of coffee, according to a report from Jay County Sheriff’s Office. Kirtley told police he began to choke on his coffee and lost control of the semi, causing it to go off the south side of the road and into a yard at 6437 E. Indiana 67. He veered back onto the road and then went off the north side of the road and hit a culvert.
Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000. The semi Kirtley was driving — it’s registered to Continental Express of Sidney, Ohio — was towed.
