Golfers lose in a nailbiter

FRHS roundup

Eli Lennartz was three strokes off par. Alex Dues and Matthew Romer were six off. All three only had one double bogey in the match.

Yet still, the Indians were one stroke off of the Wildcats.

The Fort Recovery High School boys golf team came up just short at Portland Golf Club, falling to Midwest Athletic Conference foe Minster 163-164 Thursday.

Lennartz shot for par seven times during his round. Holes No. 12 and 15 were all that held his score back. His 38 was good enough to be the match medalist.

Minster’s Louis Magoto had the low score of the Wildcats with 40. The other three scores for Minster were all 41s.

Dues and Romer each shot five pars in the match. Both had 41s to take up the No. 2 and 3 scores.

Reece LeFevre finished off the score for the Indians (4-6, 3-4 MAC) a 44. He recorded with pars on the 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes.

Keegan Muhlenkamp and Nate Jutte’s scores of 45 did not affect the team score.

Golfers fall

MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls golf team's six-match win streak ended Thursday with a 178-223 loss to the Minster Wildcats at Arrowhead Golf Club.

Olivia Knapke shot the best score for the Indians. She finished with 52 strokes.

Ashley Meyer earned match medalist honors with a 39, three strokes off par.

Marissa Schoen followed Knapke’s score with a 55. Only one stroke behind Schoen was Brynn Stammen, whose 56 was the No. 3 score for Fort Recovery.

Eva Kahlig rounded out the Indians’ score with 60 strokes.

Emma Will’s 64 and Ella Schoen’s 67 didn’t qualify for the team score.

Other scores for the Wildcats came from Ashlyn Homan (43), Lauren Heitkamp (46) and Star Weigandt (50).

RPI to seed

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors approved the usage of a ratings percentage index (RPI) from MaxPreps to determine seeding for the boys and girls basketball district tournaments Thursday.

Last season, the OHSAA northwest district piloted an RPI formula to test the process and found it to be successful.

The exact formula is still to be created. The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association is working with MaxPreps to develop the formula.

Moving forward, coaches will be required to report scores to MaxPreps.
