FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — The Indians seemed to have the game in the bag moving into the bottom of the seventh.
With a three-run lead, they only needed three outs to come home with a victory.
Their opponent had other plans.
Fort Loramie rallied to score four seventh-inning runs to come back and beat the Fort Recovery softball team 5-4 Friday.
Entering the bottom of the seventh, the Indians (1-2) held a three-run advantage. The final frame didn’t start off ideally, as Jenna Homan walked Carissa Meyer before getting the first out. A single by Kendall Tennery and a walk drawn by Alex Rose loaded the bases before Autumn Turner doubled to push two across the plate for Fort Loramie (4-0).
Two pitches later Kate Ruhenkamp ended the game on a line drive to right field for a walk-off single that scored the final two runs.
Homan suffered the loss and a blown save in two innings of work as she allowed four earned runs.
FRHS did its damage early, scoring one run in the first inning and two in the third to build a 3-0 lead. Fort Loramie answered back with a run in the fourth before the Indians pushed their final run of the game across in the fifth.
Ava Grisez and Britney Tebbe had the best days at the plate as the former finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and the latter drove in two runs on a single. Homan also had a nice day with the bat, recording two hits, a run and an RBI.
Both Turner and Ruhenkamp finished with two hits and two RBIs for FLHS.
