Scam warning issued
The United States Marshals Services and FBI issued a warning Monday regarding a scam.
Individuals are claiming to be representatives of the Marshals Services, court officers or other law enforcement. They provide information like badge numbers, names of actual law enforcement officials, federal judges and courthouse addresses in order to seem credible.
The FBI notes:
•The U.S. Marshals Service will never ask for credit/debit card/gift card numbers, wire transfers, or bank routing numbers or to make bitcoin deposits for any purpose.
•Never divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers.
•Report scam phone calls to your local FBI offices and to the FTC.
•You can remain anonymous when you report.
•You can authenticate the call by contacting the United States District Court Clerk’s in your area to verify the court order given by the caller.
Anyone who has been contacted in such a fashion should report it to the Federal Trade Commission online at reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/?orgcode=USM or to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation at ic3.gov.
