Variance denied

Jay County Board of Zoning Appeals denied a variance request Thursday from Steve and Tony Schwieterman.

The Schwietermans requested a 90-foot variance from the 100-foot setback requirement for a poultry confined feeding building at their property, 8346 E. Indiana 26, Portland. Their plans were to tear down existing buildings and construct a new facility, which would be closer to the right-of-way.

Board members Scott Hilfiker, Angela Paxson, Steve Ford, Caleb Hemmelgarn and Marla Lutes decided not to grant the variance.
