Muncie man died in single-vehicle crash on Saturday
A Muncie man died Saturday after losing control of the car he was driving and crashing in western Jay County.
Ryan P. Mast, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident about 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, Mast was traveling north on Indiana 1 just north of its intersection with county road 300 South. He lost control of the 2008 Toyota Yaris he was driving and it went off the east side of the road.
Mast then overcorrected, causing the car to turn sideways and cross the center of the road. The vehicle went off the west side of the road, and its passenger side struck into an American Electric Power utility pole and broke it.
Mast, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, suffered a fatal head injury as a result of the crash. He was trapped in the vehicle when emergency responders arrived.
The vehicle Mast was driving — it’s registered to Meagan A. Mast of Alexandria — was towed, with damage estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
