Jewell M. Freeman, who exemplified strength, bravery and unyielding positivity, passed away on Dec.11, 2024.
Born on Dec. 9, 1933, in Kentucky, Jewell, was known for her warmth, generosity and the loving spirit she brought into the world.
Jewell will be lovingly remembered by her beloved children, Dorothy Bonshire (Arnold Adkins), Lonnie Mock and Larry Mock (Connie); grandchildren Aaron Baker, Joshua Baker, Telea Wormer, Freedom Smith Green, Adam Mock, Keri Bailey and Rachel Mock; 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Paul R. Freeman, the love of her life; Richie Reynolds, grandson; Jody Reynolds, grandson; her parents, Alex and Marie Webb Bivens; siblings, Charles Bivens, Jessie Bivens, Oma Lee Bivens, Garnet Bivens and Floyd Bivens; and Twila Mock, daughter-in-law.
Jewell moved to Dunkirk, Indiana, as a teenager to live with her Aunt Mabel and Uncle John Webster following the death of her mother. She was a hard worker all her life and retired from Kerr Glass as a foreman in the packing dept. Following her retirement, Jewell and her best friend, Hazel Cline, worked helping other members to build the current Nazarene Church in Dunkirk.
Jewell loved gardening and canning with her brother, Charles, and they spent many summers canning yummy food for both their families.
Some of her many hobbies included quilting, crocheting and sewing, and she did all of them with lots of enthusiasm.
Jewell loved to cook and bake, and if you were ever lucky enough to try one of her famous lemon meringue pies or homemade cream puffs you know they were amazing.
Jewell missed her true calling in life was to be a nurse. She had the honor to take care of Richie while he battled leukemia which ultimately resulted in his passing. At different times throughout her life, she had the privilege to take care of several individuals, allowing them to stay at home until their passing including her mother-in-law Annie; her aunt Dorothy Miller; and her sister-in-law Edna.
There will be no services per Mom’s request.
The family asks those wishing to pay their respects do so by visiting an elderly neighbor, family member, nursing home resident or sending an unexpected card or flowers in Mom’s memory. Remember to always share a smile.
Mom will be missed by all who knew her. We will miss your beautiful smile you will be forever loved.
