Fortkamp, Wendel lead Indians in regular season finale

FRHS roundup

BERNE — Sage Wendel and Teigen Fortkamp have led the Indians all year. That didn’t change as they wrapped up the regular season.

The Fort Recovery High School girls swim team split with Versailles and Coldwater while the boys team fell to both on Thursday night.

Versailles’ girls ran away for first place with 82 points while Fort Recovery scored 47 to edge out Coldwater’s 44. The boys team won half of its events, but a lack of depth resulted in only scoring 25 points while Versailles had 72 and Coldwater earned 52.

Wendel captured the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle. He also took first in the 100 backstroke.

Caleb Smith had the other victory for the Indians (1-11) in the 100 breaststroke.

Fortkamp claimed both victories for the girls team (8-4). She came out on top of the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.

The meet closed the regular season for the Indians, who will next compete at the sectional meet at Ayersville on Feb. 10.

Offense struggles

ST. HENRY, Ohio — A big third quarter powered St. Henry to a 50-36 victory over the Fort Recovery girls basketball team Thursday.

Leah Lefeld had eight of her game-high 16 points in the third period, as St. Henry (11-5, 5-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) exploded for 21 points.

Outside of Lefeld, St. Henry had three players put up six points and two more scored five.

Cali Wendel led the Indians (6-12, 2-5 MAC) with three triples and four free throws to tally 13 points.

Beyond Wendel, only three Fort Recovery players scored. Karlie Niekamp and Makenna Huelskamp both had nine points while Saige Leuthold scored five.
