FORT RECOVERY —- The Indians struggled to find offense in when they traveled to St. Henry in late December.
When it was their turn to host, they didn’t struggle to score, but failed to stop Evan Bowers.
The St. Henry senior put up 22 points on the Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team to power his team past the Indians for a 68-56 victory on Friday.
Nine of Bowers’ 22 points came during a 20-point fourth quarter for St. Henry that put Fort Recovery (5-12, 0-6 Midwest Athletic Conference) away.
St. Henry (13-3, 6-1 MAC) also got a strong second-half performance from Caden Bergman who finished with 12 points. Logan Link contributed throughout the game for 15, while Luke Beyke scored early to tally 12 points.
Briggs Overman scored a team-high 13 points for FRHS by making five trips to the free-throw line, where he shot 7-for-10.
Troy Homan scored 11 for FRHS, hitting at least one shot in each period.
Jay edges SA
BERNE — Jay County’s junior high wrestling team got an overtime victory to push its record back above .500 as it knocked off the host South Adams Starfires 46-42 Thursday.
The Patriots (5-4) were able to top South Adams thanks to Shayli Witt’s 5-3 overtime victory in the 150-pound match. Max McClain also won via decision by a score of 11-6 in the 125 contest.
The only other match to not be determined by fall was in the 95-pound weight class. Corbin Lothridge walked away with an 11-2 major decision to score the first points for Jay County.
The Patriots took three of the other matches wrestled. Picking up wins by pin were Miles Jones (117), Caleb Sibray (160), and Varen Ridgway (175).
