Vehicle fire
A woman’s truck caught on fire Thursday near East Elementary School.
The 1994 Dodge Ram 1500’s engine compartment began smoking on Jackson Street next to the parking lot after Christy Curtis dropped off a child for school about 7:45 a.m. Thursday. Six Portland Fire Department personnel responded to the scene within five minutes, putting out the flames by 8:09 a.m.
There were no injuries from the incident, with damage mostly limited to the engine compartment.
Jay School Corporation superintendent Jeremy Gulley said in an email at 8 a.m. Thursday no students were impacted and school operations continued as normal.
