Evelyn Stroble
Evelyn (Edwina) Stroble passed away at the age of 100 on the morning of Jan. 2, 2024, at the Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne.
Born on July 19, 1923, to John and Bernice Davis in Jay County, Indiana, she married Jim Stroble on June 6, 1942. They were married for 78 years until Jim passed away in 2020.
Edwina was primarily a homemaker, taking care of Jim and her two sons (Larry and Lynn). She worked several jobs during the early years, including selling Avon. When Jim started Tri-State Instrument Service in 1963, she worked alongside him (and later Lynn when he took over the business) shipping, receiving and bookkeeping until finally retiring in 1977.
She was the wife of an avid gardener and became a reluctant avid canner. Edwina and Jim purchased a Florida retirement home and spent over 20 years of winters there, officially making them ‘snow birds.’
Edwina is survived by son, Lynn Stroble (Cathy); grandchildren Kimberly Wade (Staughton), Tim Stroble, Ryan Stroble, Emily Sze (Leo) and Mandi Haffner (Corey); and great-grandchildren Ronin, Kiernin, Damien, Sydney, Lydia, Vivian and Isla.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; son Larry Stroble (Suzi); brother Paul Davis; and sister Marcia Scott.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.
Graveside services will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Fort Recovery, Ohio.
