Indians fade in fourth to fall to Versailles

Local roundup

The Indians only trailed by six heading into the final period.

The Tigers exploded offensively to squash any chance of a comeback.

The Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team dropped its fifth game in a row with a 45-31 loss to the Versailles Tigers on Friday.

Fifteen points from Jace Watren and 12 from A.J. Griesdorn powered Versailles’ offensive onslaught that prevented the Indians (4-7, 0-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) from picking up their first conference win.

Seven of Griesdorn’s points came in the fourth quarter as he hit three shots and spit a pair of free throws. Watren massaged his points throughout the game with a pair of buckets in the first, two 3-pointers in the second, a three in the third and four in the fourth on one basket and two foul shots.

Briggs Overman led FRHS with eight points in his first start of the season. He scored one bucket in the second, and earned the rest of his points at the free-throw line.

Gavin Faller and Rex Leverette both added seven points for the Indians.

Fort Recovery only won the third quarter when it knocked down six shots at the charity stripe to outpace Versailles (5-2, 2-0 MAC) 8-7.

Glassford seventh

Three athletes from Jay County and Fort Recovery High Schools competed in the diving portion of the Patriot invite on Friday.

Brasen Glassford and Bryden Carter both competed for the JCHS boys swim team. Glassford finished seventh with 183.25 points while 168.51 points had Carter sitting ninth.

Oak Hill’s Grant Cates won the boys event with 590.1 points.

From FRHS, Theresa Hipple scored 165.5 points to earn sixth place. Abby Sneed of Oak Hill won with a score of 346.1.

The swimming portion of the Patriot invite will be completed today.
