YORKTOWN — The Patriots depth has gotten them through many meets this season, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Tigers.
The Jay County High School swim teams fell to the Yorktown Tigers on Tuesday. A pair of top finishes for the girls team kept it closer, but still fell 174-115, while the boys team was blown away 205-80.
Naroa Zugasti opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 1-meter diving for the Patriots (7-4) as the Tigers didn’t have a diver. She scored 99.55 points.
Lauren Fisher captured the only other first-place finish for Jay County. Her time of 1 minute, 20.54 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke was enough to beat out Lily Kleinschmidt who finished 1:21.25.
The boys (2-9) didn’t finish first in any events.
The girls earned five runner-ups, including the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams. The 200 freestyle relay team of Morgan DeHoff, Fisher, Avery Wentz and Zion Beiswanger missed first place by less than a second. It took 1:54.74 to hit the wall, while Yorktown’s team finished in 1:54.10.
They also got individual second-place finishes from Sophia Hoevel and Beiswanger. Hoevel swam a time of 2:41.72 in the 200 individual medley. Beiswanger earned second in the 100 freestyle with a 1:03.21.
The boys only had one second place finish from Brasen Glassford who scored 137.1 in the diving.
David Keen and Joseph Dow were the top point getters for the Jay County boys, as they posted a pair of third-place finishes each. Keen competed in the individual medley and the 100 butterfly while Dow swam the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
