DELPHOS — The Indians put up the largest amount of points they’ve had all season.
However, 56 points weren’t enough to overcome a giant first half by the Blue Jays.
The Fort Recovery High School basketball team trailed by 25 points at halftime before eventually falling to the St. John’s Blue Jays 76-56 on Monday.
St. John’s (10-2, 3-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) got everything it wanted offensively in the first half as it poured in 18 shots, including seven 3-pointers. The Blue Jays outscored the Indians by over 10 points in the first two quarters by margins of 21-10 and 26-12.
Fort Recovery (4-9, 0-3 MAC) won the third and fourth quarters, but not by enough to mount a full comeback. The Indians outscored the Blue Jays by three in the fourth and two in the third quarter.
Alex Dues led scoring for the Indians with a season-high 15 points. The senior knocked down three 3-point shots in the fourth quarter.
Rex Leverette and Briggs Overmann were both one point away from double figures with nine each, all of which came in the first three periods.
St. John’s had four players reach double-digit scoring on Monday. Cameron Elwer and Aaron Moenter both put up 16 points. Their best quarters came in the second when Moenter hit four of his seven made baskets for eight points, while Elwer added three baskets.
Drew Boggs and Tyce McClain weren’t far behind with 13 and 12 points respectively.
Other FRHS scorers include Reece Guggenbiller (six points), Eli Lennartz (six), Gavin Faller (five) and Mason Diller (three).
