There will be at least two contested races for county office.
Jonelle Foreman, a Republican, filed Tuesday to run for Jay County Treasurer.
Foreman’s filing creates a contested race for the GOP nomination for the position. Also already filed to run for the seat is current Jay County clerk Jon Eads.
The other contested race so far for the primary is for the Republican nomination for Jay County Commissioner in the north district. Former commissioner Mike Leonhard is seeking to reclaim the seat and will take on Doug Horn in the primary. (Current commissioner Rex Journay has indicated that he will not seek a second term.
Republican Brian Hutchison also filed Tuesday to seek another term as Jay Circuit Court Judge.
Ryan Wellman, a Republican, signed up to run for Jay County Council at-large, joining current council president Matt Minnich. (Three at-large seats are up for election this year.
Matt Lehman, a Republican from Berne, has also filed to run for re-election as state representative for District 79. He represents the northern third of Jay County as well as Adams and Wells counties.
Also filing was Randy Stephen for Republican precinct committeeman.
Filing for this year’s election cycle continues until noon Feb. 9. Positions up for election this year include Jay County Commissioner, three at-large seats on Jay County Council, Jay County Circuit Court Judge, and county clerk of courts, treasurer, coroner and surveyor.
