Cincinnatus League of Jay County will be honoring six individuals at its annual hall of fame induction ceremony during Jay County Fair.

To be selected, individuals must have devoted extraordinary time and effort to the Jay County community through volunteerism, live in Jay County or have significant ties to Jay County and be at least 65 years old by the ceremony, which will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the Farmer’s Building on Jay County Fairgrounds.
Grants awarded
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education selected two local students to receive Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarships.
Jay County High School graduates Hannah Laux and Zoey Shaneyfelt were selected for the scholarships this year.
Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship winners, who were selected through a competitive process, receive up to $10,000 per year. In exchange, they agree to teach for five years at an eligible Indiana school.
“Teachers play a vital role in inspiring hope and preparing students for postsecondary and career success,” said Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Chris Lowery. “Thanks to the Indiana General Assembly for supporting this initiative, the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship is key to ensuring future Hoosier educators have access to training and resources needed to build the next generation of the Indiana teacher workforce.”
Almost 950 students applied for the scholarship this year, with more than 300 being awarded. To qualify, students had to rank in the top 20% of their class, score in the top 20% on the SAT or ACT or have at least a 3.0 grade point average.
