Vehicle struck
A Fort Wayne man crashed the truck he was driving into the back of the van an Auburn man was driving along U.S. 27 in Jay County about 10:20 a.m. Monday.
Nicholas L. Stern, 25, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Express north on the highway when a vehicle in front of him attempting to merge onto Bryant Pike suddenly stopped, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report. Stern stopped to avoid hitting the other vehicle. At the same time, Steve W. Moss, 62, was driving a 2017 Ford Commercial Chassis behind Stern. He attempted to stop and swerve away from Stern but wasn’t able to avoid a collision.
Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500. The van Stern was driving is registered to Watch Communications of St Louis, Missouri. The vehicle Moss was driving is registered to Aramark Uniform of Indianapolis.
Deer accident
An Ohio man’s vehicle was towed after hitting a deer along county road 300 North in Jay County about 6 a.m. Friday.
Trent L. Butler, 52, Celina, was driving his 2016 Ford Focus west on the road near county road 600 East when a deer ran in front of his path. He wasn’t able to avoid hitting the animal.
Damage is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
