To the editor:
On Saturday, June 22, Portland’s fire chief was off duty but came to the aid of my husband, who had passed out.
Mike Weitzel was able to get my husband to the ground in an attempt to revive him. Even after the ambulance arrived, Mr. Weitzel refused to leave our sides until the situation was resolved.
Was he done and resumed his bike ride?
No.
Mike went back to the campground, got his truck, loaded us and our bicycles into his truck and escorted us to our home.
I am happy to say my husband is fine and we are both beyond grateful for this fine young man whom you are fortunate to have in the midst of Portland.
