FORT RECOVERY — Jenna Homan only gave up three hits while striking out nine batters in the season opener.
The lineup put up a pair of runs in support as well.
Walks and stolen bases were what really hurt the Indians.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team dropped its season opener 3-2 against the Ansonia Tigers Monday afternoon.
The Tigers (1-0) got on top early when Bailey Schmit reached base on a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball.
Ansonia scored the next two runs before Fort Recovery (0-1) got on the board. The second run was the result of a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt. The third run got on base due to a walk and eventually scored on a single by Scmidt.
Fort Recovery’s first run crossed the plate in the fourth inning when Ella Schoen and Kylie Post strung together a pair of hits. Post later drove in her second run of the game with a sixth-inning single to plate Emma Will and cut the deficit to one.
Abigail Kramer secured the win for Ansonia, throwing all seven innings and giving up two runs on four hits and one walk while striking the Indians out 10 times.
