The Mastodons got matched up with a Power 5 team in their second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
The Mastodons didn’t care as they dominated the Bearcats.
Renna Schwieterman added five points to the Purdue Fort Wayne women’s basketball team’s 84-58 blowout of the Cincinnati Bearcats on March 24.
Schwieterman played 13 minutes off the bench for the Mastodons in the second round of the WNIT.
She shot a perfect 2-for-2 from the field with a 3-pointer. She also had two rebounds and an assist before fouling out of the contest halfway through the fourth quarter.
The Mastodons (23-12) faced Saint Louis in the Super 16 on Friday to earn a chance to play Wisconsin in the Great 8.
Noah Arbuckle
Jay County — 2020
Picked up the win while throwing seven innings for the Huntington University baseball team in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday.
Arbuckle started the game for the Foresters (17-12) by retiring the first eight batters. A hit in the third inning didn’t do any damage as the JCHS graduate retired the side on the next batter.
To start the fourth, he gave up a home run, but only gave up one hit and zero runs against the final 15 batters he faced.
In all, the senior only gave up three hits and one walk while striking out one batter. Huntington’s offense covered for the run, by scoring 11 to end the game by the mercy rule in the eighth.
Sophie Pearson
FRHS — 2023
Nearly made it around to score as a pinch runner for the Thomas More University softball team in a 4-1 loss Sunday to the Ashland Eagles.
Pearson was subbed in to run for Becca Mowen in the sixth inning as the Saints trailed Ashland 4-0. She advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Hailey McAdoo hit a single to drive in a run for the Saints (6-21), but Pearson was thrown out by the right fielder when trying to score from second base.
Maddie Guggenbiller
FRHS — 2023
Played both games in the Defiance College softball team’s doubleheader against the Adrian Bulldogs.
The 2023 graduate of Fort Recovery High School reached base once on a walk in the pair of losses for the Yellowjackets (4-13).
