Lost control

A Muncie man complained of back pain after his motorcycle left Ohio 119 and he fell off of it about 1 a.m. Sunday.

Larry G. Page, 67, was driving his 2008 Harley Davidson west on Indiana 26 and crossed State Line Road following other motorcycles. He told police an eastbound vehicle crossed the centerline, causing him to drive along the shoulder of the road. His rear tire went off the road, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle. He continued down a hill and was thrown from the motorcycle when it began to roll.

Page was taken to Mercer Health in Coldwater, Ohio.

His motorcycle was towed, with damage estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

Vehicle pursuit

A rural Winchester woman was arrested after she fled from police into Portland and crashed at the intersection of Bridge and Third streets about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Ashlyn N. Longfellow, 20, 730 E. 500 South, was driving along county road 300 South near U.S. 27 when police attempted to pull her over. She failed to stop, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, and continued driving east at a high rate of speed. Police followed her as she turned north onto county road 50 East. The vehicle she was driving, a 2013 Nissan Altima, left the road and went into a cornfield before returning to county road 50 East.

Longfellow turned west onto county road 200 South and then north onto U.S. 27. She continued driving into the southern Portland city limits at 80 miles per hour while heading north, according to the report. Longfellow failed to stop at the Meridian Treet (U.S. 27) intersection with Water Street, turning west. She continued west on Water Street, and turned south onto Ship Street, continuing onto Bridge Street. As she approached Third Street, she failed to stop at the intersection and slid into a rock lot at 406 S. Shank St., colliding with a fence post.

Longfellow was booked into Jay County Jail and preliminarily charged with a Level 6 felony for resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and a Class C misdemeanor for consuming an alcoholic beverage as a minor.

Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000. The vehicle she was driving was towed.
