Gail Compton

Gail Compton, age 83, of Portland passed away on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at her residence. 

She was born in Portland on July 24, 1941, the daughter of Williard “Bill” and June (Frasher) Ireland. She was married on July 24, 1960, to Ronald Compton and he passed away on May 10, 1991. 

Gail had worked for Marsh Supermarkets for 35 years and was assistant deli manager. She was a 1959 Portland High School graduate, member of Tri Kappa Sorority and enjoyed knitting, loved her cats and enjoyed cooking for everyone.

Surviving are two sons, Curt Compton (wife: Christine) of Portland and Troy Compton (wife: Dina) of Albany; three sisters-in-law, Sandy Ireland, Sally Ireland and Connie Walker, all of Portland; four grandchildren, Samantha, Colton, Tory and Katey; and two great-grandchildren, Benton and Nova. 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Ireland.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec.14, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Portland Elk’s Lodge.

Baird-Freeman Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
