Lost control
A Portland woman lost control of her car, causing it to roll along the side of county road 50 North about 9 p.m. Saturday.
Tea M. Nichols, 22, was driving her 2016 Honda Pilot west on the road near county road 600 East when she drove across standing water, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report. She began hydroplaning, causing her to lose control of her car and go off the south side of the road. Nichols’ vehicle rolled once before stopping on the driver’s side of the car in the ditch.
No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
Drunk driving
A Portland man was arrested Sunday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after driving off Votaw Street into Haynes Park in Portland about 11:28 p.m. Saturday.
Anthony L. Crawford, 38, 322 W. Main St., was driving his 2010 Chrysler 300 east on the street near its intersection with Middle Street when he left the traffic lane and went into the grass at the park just south of the road.
Crawford was administered a blood and alcohol drug test with results pending. He was preliminarily charged with a Level 6 felony for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Level 6 felony for obstruction of justice, a Class A misdemeanor for resisting law enforcement and a Class B misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident.
Crawford's vehicle was towed, with damage between $2,500 and $5,000. He was being held on a $4,500 bond in Jay County Jail.
Couldn't see
A Portland woman crashed into a Portland man’s truck at the intersection of Morton and Water streets about 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Brandy J. Yates, 29, was driving her 2010 Chevrolet Impala along Water Street. She told police her windows were frosted over and the sun obscured her vision, making it difficult to see the 2012 Dodge Ram in front of her preparing to turn. Yates crashed into the vehicle driven by 27-year-old Jordan Robbins.
Yates’ vehicle was towed, with damage estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Pole hit
A Portland teen crashed into a utility pole along county road 200 South about 10:05 a.m. Wednesday.
Julian D. Hudson, 16, was driving a 2013 Chrysler 300 east on the road near its intersection with Indiana 67 when her passenger side went off the south side of the road. The vehicle continued into a ditch on the south side of the road, hitting a culvert and address sign at 3787 W. 200 South, Portland. She also struck an American Electric Power utility pole, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report.
The vehicle Hudson was driving was towed, with damage estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
