CELINA, Ohio — The Indians’ top two golfers didn’t have the match they have proven they are capable of when they visited the Flyers, but it didn’t matter as it got the job done.
Despite posting its highest score of the season thus far, the Fort Recovery High School girls golf team pulled out a 210-251 victory over the Marion Local Flyers at Mercer County Elks to claim Monday’s Midwest Athletic Conference opener.
Olivia Knapke, who previously posted scores of 44 and 47 in nine-hole events, slipped a little to shoot a 51. The score still earned her match medalist honors for the second time this season.
Joining Knapke with a second match-medalist title was Mallory Evers, who also shot a 51.
Georgia Wenning bounced back from a rough showing at the Gary Broering Invite to post the third-best score for Fort Recovery (2-0, 1-0 MAC) at 52.
Evvie Briner carded a 56, which was better than Marion Local’s top golfer at 60 strokes, to round out the team score.
Sophomores Layla Armstrong and Cora Pearson both shot 63s that didn’t impact the final.
