Cafe hit
A North Carolina man drove into the side of Jinny's Cafe in Bryant, causing injuries to six patrons about 5:27 p.m. Sunday.
Harvey L. Fox, 81, Newton, was parking his 2022 Ram 3500 in the lot at 305 N. Hendricks St. (U.S. 27) on the south side of the restaurant when his foot slipped off the brake pedal, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report. He told police his foot slid over to the accelerator pedal, causing his truck to crash into the side of the building.
Those injured inside the restaurant during the incident included Annette Garcia, Geneva, who was transported to IU Health Jay for back, shoulder and neck pain on her left side. Fred Garcia of Geneva was transported to IU Health Jay for lower back pain. Priscilla Garcia of Portland complained of left knee and ankle pain. Alejandro Alvarado of Geneva complained of right shoulder pain. Juan Espinoza of Geneva complained of lower back pain. (Priscilla Garcia, Alvarado and Espinoza told police they would drive themselves to the hospital.)
Jerry Sullivan of Portland refused treatment.
Jinny’s Cafe is owned by Brooke Henry.
Damage was estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
