Youth beat NCHS

JCHS boys soccer

NEW CASTLE — Elias Mueller has dominated the pitch in the Patriots’ first two games of the season.

When they made the trip southwest, a different trio of players stepped up to take down the Trojans.

Two freshmen and a sophomore combined to lift the Jay County High School boys soccer team over the New Castle Trojans 3-2 Tuesday.

Jay County (2-0-1) drew first blood as Jacoby Penrod drove downfield and got the ball past Luke Mendoza in the goal midway through the first period.

The Patriots slipped up in the closing minutes of the first half, fouling New Castle (2-2) in the box. Evan Millikan got the penalty kick past Peyton Yowell, who made four saves on the day, to knot the game up 1-1 at the intermission.

JCHS immediately righted the ship coming out of the break as Rockland Beiswanger assisted Penrod in the first 30 seconds to reclaim a 2-1 advantage. However, the lead didn’t last as Brayden Malek found Quentin Tafoya to retie the game.

The winning goal came with 14 minutes remaining as Brody Collins headed a ball to Beiswanger for the score.

The defense held on the rest of the way to stall out the Trojans for the victory.
