DELPHOS, Ohio — The Tribe had to fight through some inclement weather just to get to Delphos for the season opener.
However, the Indians weren’t as icy as the roads as a big first half against the Wildcats.
The Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team scored 18 points in each of the first two quarters as it beat the Jefferson Wildcats 66-52 Saturday to start off the 2025-26 campaign.
Six Indians scored in the first quarter with Colson Post leading the way with a pair of 3-pointers. Breaker Jutte took over in the second with 11 of his game-high 25 points.
Hudson Overman and Brody Barga also scored in double figures for Fort Recovery (1-0) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Kellen Carder led the Wildcats (0-1) with 15 points, while Gavin Howell followed with 12. All 12 of Howell’s points came in the second half, when Jefferson made a stand with 36 points but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Other scorers for FRHS were Post (nine points), Douglas Bihn (six), Kolton Thompson (three) and Dylan Klenke (two).
Roessner leads
UNION CITY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys bowling team rolled through the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks on Saturday for a 2,637-2,089 victory at Woodcrest Lanes.
Strong performances in the individual games led to the Indians (4-0) holding nearly a 300 pin advantage on Mississinawa Valley. Anthony Roessner rolled the high game of 205 pins and followed it up with a 204 for a 409 series. A.J. Siefring was the other Indian to bowl two games, knocking over 171 and 172 pins, respectively.
James Westgerdes, Gabe Acheson, Rece LeFevre, Garrett Diller and Leland Wilson all contributed one individual game as well, with no games lower than 164 pins.
Fort Recovery outdid the Blackhawks in all five baker games as well to seal the victory. The final was the best for FRHS, as it threw a 195.
Gaerke breaks out
UNION CITY, Ohio — Claire Gaerke of the Fort Recovery girls bowling team had a breakout day in the Tribe’s 2,299-1,930 victory over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks at Woodcrest Lanes on Saturday.
Gaerke posted a career-high series of 360 pins after rolling games of 171 and 189. Her second game only trailed Deanna Brown’s 194 – Brown, the reigning Midwest Athletic Conference bowler of the year, only rolled one individual game – in the match.
Freshman Liliana Williams also posted the best series in her young career as games of 151 and 163 pins combined for a 314.
Returners Jadyn Wyerick and Lilah Thien also bowled two games, with series of 297 and 282, respectively. Malia Grisez shot her career high-game of 144 pins as well.
Fort Recovery (2-1) added 708 pins in the baker games. The fourth had the highest mark with 209 pins.
