Lost control

A Muncie man was arrested for drunk driving after losing control of his vehicle and crashing along county road 700 South about 2:26 a.m. Sunday.

Grayson S. Williams, 20, was driving his 2007 Dodge Charger east on the road just east of its intersection with county road 500 East when his vehicle drove across a patch of ice, causing it to spin out of control and continue off the south side of the road.

Williams allegedly showed signs of being unbalanced and slurring his words, as well as smelling of alcohol, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report. He was administered a preliminary breath test and arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 0.15% or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and being a minor consuming alcohol, a Class C misdemeanor.

His vehicle was towed, with damage estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

Turning accident

A Portland woman drove in front of oncoming traffic at the intersection of Mount Pleasant Road and county road 400 South, causing an accident about 4 p.m. Sunday.

Rebecca Matchett, 77, was driving her 2018 Ford Escape west on county road 400 South. She told police she stopped at its intersection with Mount Pleasant Road and didn’t see any oncoming traffic, so she continued west. At the same time, Douglas Bird, 61, Redkey, was driving his 2004 Dodge Ram southwest on Mount Pleasant Road and approaching its intersection with county road 400 South. (Traffic on Mount Pleasant Road doesn’t have a stop at the intersection.)

Matchett drove into Bird’s path, and his vehicle crashed into her car. Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
