BERNE — The Patriots nearly completed a full sweep. But they fell just one event short.
The Jay County High School swim teams dominated the South Adams Starfires, but fell short of a complete sweep, winning 23 of 24 events.
The Patriot girls beat the Starfires 132-48, while the boys ran away with a 130-47 victory. The girls (4-0, 2-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) completely swept South Adams, while the boys (2-2, 1-1 ACAC) took all but the 100-yard breaststroke.
Six Patriots ended up as dual-event winners.
On the girls side, Brooklynn Byrum won the 200 freestyle (2 minutes, 18.14 seconds) and 100 freestyle (1:01.49), while her younger sister, Elly Byrum, claimed the 200 individual medley (2:36.36) and 100 butterfly (1:10.57). Maria Laux also won two races, topping the 50 freestyle (26.45) and 100 backstroke (1:11.13).
Senior Peyton Yowell picked up first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.08) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.82). A pair of sophomores, Carson Westgerdes and Cooper Glentzer, also won two events each. The former hit the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:58.55) and 100 backstroke (1:05.25), while the latter topped the 200 IM (2:17.01) and 100 freestyle (52.97).
Jay County also got victories from:

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team’s comeback bid came up just short against the Ansonia Tigers, falling 37-36 on Monday.
The Indians (0-7) scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t overtake Ansonia (4-1). FRHS and the Tigers were tied 10-10 after the first quarter, but the Tribe didn’t make a field goal in the second to go down 20-14.
Makenna Huelskamp led the Indians with 11 points, all of which came in the second half. Ivy Tobe had a career game with 10 points. Bridget Homan was the only other Indian to make a field goal, finishing with seven points.
Cameron Muhlenkamp made five free throws,while Paisley Hart added two.
Olivia Creager scored a team-high 12 points for Ansonia, while Shyann McKenna added 11.
Lee leads
The Jay County Junior High School boys basketball teams split with the Blackford Bruins on Monday.
Abram Lee had his way with Blackford, leading the eighth grade team to a 55-44 victory. Lee dropped 37 points, coming up just seven shy of the Bruins’ total as a team.
Finn Hemmelgarn and Job Dirksen each added six points as well. In support, Eli Homan had two buckets, while Roman Clamme had two points.
The seventh grade team fell to Blackford 43-27. Carson Pfeifer led the way with 11 points.
Henry Teeter and Beckham Hough both scored six points, while Carter May had three and Cruz Darby hit one free throw.
In a seventh-grade exhibition game, JCJHS beat Blackford 42-9.
Ryker Price led the way with 19 points, while four more Patriots found the hoop as well.
Girls sweep
MUNCIE — The Jay County Junior High girls basketball teams swept Muncie Northside on Monday with the seventh graders winning 19-7 and the eighth grade team claiming a 31-10 victory.
Gretchen Petro doubled Northside’s score herself with 14 points to lead the way for Jay County. Adalee Rigby and Kendall Farr each added two points as well, while Haley Comer hit one free throw.
Arabella Link led the eighth graders with 10 points to match Northside. Brenna Weitzel and Kinze Homan both had eight in the victory while Kyla Sims scored five points.
The seventh grade team moves to 8-1 on the season, while the eighth graders are now 6-3.
