Sarah Stigleman

Sarah Ellen Stigleman, 80, of Redkey, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 14, with her girls by her side, at Persimmon Ridge, in Portland, Indiana. 

Ellen was born in Portland on April 16, 1945, a daughter of the late Vera Fern (Shull) and William Curtis White. She was a 1963 graduate of Redkey High School and proudly supported her school as a member of the cheerleading squad. 

Ellen was the loving wife of Gene Stigleman who she happily married on Feb. 7, 1965. She formerly worked as a bank teller at Union Bank in Redkey, until her retirement at age 65. Ellen and Gene attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland. 

In her spare time she enjoyed dancing, volunteering for Fun For Kids and served as an officer for the Redkey Chapter, participating in community and church group activities, softball, watching game shows, listening to country and gospel music, her dogs, and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Ellen will forever be remembered as the beautiful, funny, ornery, supportive and loving woman she was. Her girls couldn't have asked for a better mother and friend. 

She is survived by her husband Gene Stigleman; two daughters, Gina Renee Stigleman (fiance: Nick Schlarman ) and Lori Deann Litton (husband: Tony); three grandchildren, Kelsey Litton, Kensey Litton and Kylah Stigleman; and two great-grandchildren, Benson Stoner and Harper Owens. 

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Vera Fern and William Curtis White.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Hugh Kelley officiating. Interment will be held privately for the family at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery in Redkey.
