Jay County Public Library’s winter-themed cover art contest kicks off next week.

Artists of various ages are invited to pick up entry forms from the library, 315 N. Ship St., Portland, to join the contest, which runs from Monday through March 8. Competitors will be challenged to redesign the cover of their favorite book and “winterize” it. Entries may include a painting, sketch or drawing. 

Other activities coming up for the library include:

•Crafts, Cookies and Cocoa: A crafting night for adults at 6 p.m. Monday to design winter glitter votive candle holders and magnetic snowflake diamond paintings. Space is limited.

•Snow Much Fun: Winter crafts will be available for kids of all ages to craft from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 30. Registration is required.


Sorority news

Eta Chi Chapter of Sigma Gamma International Sorority met Jan. 7 at Mt. Tabor Hall in Dunkirk.  President Marsha Eglan opened the meeting with the pledge. Thank you notes for the 27 Christmas fruit baskets were read. Stephanie Faulkner won the 50/50 drawing. Alpha Province plans were discussed. We will meet Tuesday to work on Province plans. Each member is asked to bring a $15 gift to be used for door prizes. The next business meeting will be Feb. 4.
