Dorothy M. Bailey, age 105, of Portland and formerly of Muncie passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, in The Waters of Dunkirk.
She was born in Gaston the daughter of Vernie and Daisey (Lovett) McSherry. She was married on Jan. 1, 1942, to James L. Bailey and he passed away on March 25, 1992.
Dorothy was a homemaker and member of First Church of the Nazarene in Portland, Jay County Hospital Auxiliary, Gray Lady at Ball Memorial Hospital and Primetime. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, having played in many churches for many years.
Surviving are one son, Donald Bailey of St. Petersburg, Florida; two daughters, Rozetta Richwine (husband: Larry) of Dunkirk and Kathryn Hughes (husband: Bill) of Port Richey, Florida; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Haffner; brother, Emial McSherry; and sisters Frances Meyer and Pauline Smoker.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Cecil presiding. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
