Rear collision
A Portland teen crashed the vehicle he was driving into the back of an Ohio woman’s car at the intersection of county roads 250 West and 550 North about 1:15 a.m. Saturday.
Kelly A. Spencer, 43, Ansonia, was driving her 2023 GMC Yukon XL north on county road 250 West when she began to slow down. She told police she was unfamiliar with the area. At the same time, Cayden C. Buckland, 18, was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang behind Spencer. He told police he didn’t realize Spencer was driving slowly, and he wasn’t able to slow down or pass her vehicle before hitting it.
Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000. Both vehicles were towed.
Vehicle crash
A Union City man was arrested after crashing a vehicle into the back of a Portland man’s car about 3:10 p.m. Friday in Portland.
Luis G. Miranda-Bermudez, 28, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban west on Votaw Street. Fifty-four-year-old John A. Castillo, who was driving a 2007 Ford Edge in front of Miranda-Bermudez, stopped for traffic near Salon Karma. Miranda-Bermudez wasn’t able to stop before striking the back of Castillo’s vehicle.
Miranda-Bermudez told police he did not have a driver’s license. He was preliminarily charged a Class C misdemeanor for the alleged crime and booked into Jay County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
The vehicle he was driving was towed, with damage estimated between $5,000 and $10,000. It’s registered to Alejandro Ramirez of Indianapolis.
Turning accident
An Ohio man crashed a van into a Dunkirk woman’s vehicle at the intersection of Industrial Park Drive and Lafayette Street in Portland about 4:17 p.m. Monday.
Timothy J. Miller, 21, Mendon, Ohio, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Express north on Industrial Park Drive. Rhyanne Baldauf, 18, Dunkirk, was driving her 2007 Ford Mustang in front of Miller and slowing down to turn east onto Lafayette Street. Miller wasn’t able to stop in time before crashing into the back of Baldauf’s vehicle.
Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000. The vehicle Miller was driving is registered to 4K Dikac Transport of Mendon, Ohio.
