Caught on fire
A truck caught on fire Thursday at Jay County Landfill.
Portland Fire Department and Redkey Fire Department responded to a call at 11:13 a.m. Thursday for a vehicle fire at Waste Management’s facility, 5825 W. 400 South, Portland.
Vehicle owner Audrey Muhlenkamp told police her 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck caught on fire next to the facility’s office building while on the scale. Workers used a front-end loader to push the vehicle away from the building to avoid spreading the fire.
The fire started in the engine compartment of the truck and was extinguished by 11:38 a.m. Thursday.
Nine Portland firefighters and two Portland fire trucks responded to the scene.
