Mobile lung screenings coming to Jay
Indiana’s first mobile lung screening program will be available to Jay County residents next week.
The event begins at 9 a.m. Monday at Salamonia Fire Department, 5816 E. North St. Lung screenings can detect lung cancer at an early stage before symptoms appear.
A partnership between Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and IU Health, the mobile lung screening program boasts a 40-foot truck with a Computed Tomography (CT) scanner. Its appearance in Jay County was made possible by a gift from the Tom and Julie Wood Family Foundation, which was doubled through matching funds from IU Health.
Annual lung cancer screenings are recommended for adults ages 50 to 80 who have smoked in the last 15 years.
