Intersection crash

A Hartford City man crashed the car he was driving into a Portland woman at the intersection of Indiana 26 and county road 200 West about 12:49 p.m. Friday.

Daniel R. Brown, 19, was driving a 2024 Nissan Kicks south on county road 200 West when he stopped at its intersection with Indiana 26. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he saw a westbound 2017 GMC Terrain driven by 82-year-old Carol D. Smith of Portland on the highway and thought there was also a stop for Indiana 26 traffic at the intersection. (There is no stop for Indiana 26 traffic at the crossing.) 

He drove into the path of Smith’s vehicle, causing between $5,000 and $10,000 in estimated damage.

The vehicle Brown was driving is registered to O’Reilly Automotive Store of Springfield, Missouri.
